How can you tell if you are a hockey nut ?
Well, one way is to count how many NHL® games you watch per week. Are you watching all of your home teams games, home and away, do you travel to your favorite team’s away games, do you have a shirt or two hanging on your wall, an autographed stick or two ?
Perhaps you’re playing hockey on a regular basis. If you are ‘older’ you are probably at the rink until close to midnight. If you are younger you are probably at the rink at 5:00 a.m. getting some ice time before school.
Perhaps you are a parent, driving your hockey nut around from practice to game to practice to game…when they’re not out in the street playing street hockey.
I’ve been a hockey nut. I know I was a hockey nut because I was doing all of those things simultaneously and, every other year, I was coaching. I went to plenty of coaching clinics, an international coaching seminar. I went to power skating lessons, lessons that NHL® linesmen attended. As an adult I went to hockey school because I didn’t get the opportunity to go when I was younger and still in school.
My first experience on ice was at 15 years old. The pantomime had come to town so a small rink was installed for the show and the rink was available for public skating on off days. I went once. Someone who thought it was funny pushed me over and I banged my head on the ice and got soaking wet because it was so warm there was a lot of water on the ice. My next experience was at the age of 28, after arriving in Canada. A friend had an old pair of skates and the local pond was frozen over, the Vancouver Canucks were in the Stanley Cup finals with the NY Islanders and I was hooked.
So, you can imagine that I was very interested in the H-Box® box hockey game when the designer approached me and asked me to help flesh out the company and market the product. I attended a show they were at with 8 H-Box® Pro games on the floor, it was hockey day in Canada, and I was so impressed with the quality of the product and the level of interest shown by the public. All ages, all genders, just loved playing H-Box® Box Hockey.
Today, we are 5 years down the road and have sold H-Box® all over the world. Europe, England and Korea as well as Canada and the United States. We are very proud to be able to say that our product is owned by 10 NHL® franchises and the UpperDeck® card company buys H-Box® every year.
I am also very pleased to say that we are able to manufacture the H-Box® entirely in the United States, creating manufacturing jobs here at home and maintaining the quality standards we set for ourselves at the outset.
This year, just in time for Christmas, we announced the H-Box® Quick Build Kit, available for just $249 plus shipping, putting the H-Box® within reach of over 80% of American and Canadian households.
I will write more on the Quick Build Kit tomorrow. In the meantime, thank you all for helping make H-Box® a success.
